Over 30,000 at demo in Brussels for ceasefire in Middle East
In Brussels, 32,000 people took to the streets to call for a ceasefire in the Middle East, police reports said on Sunday.
The demonstrators called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of all prisoners, the protection of civilians and an end to illegal Jewish settlements in Palestinian territories, among other demands.
“The massacres in Lebanon and the regional escalation must be stopped,” organizers stated.
The demonstrators marched from the North Station of the Belgian capital to the European quarter.
Among their demands was for the next Belgian government to take the initiative to impose a comprehensive international military embargo.
A new government is currently being formed in Belgium following an election at the beginning of June.
