Breaking Records: Oldest Woman in U.S. Welcomes Twins

At 59 years old, Lauren Cohen from Paramus, New Jersey, made headlines as the oldest woman in the U.S. to give birth to twins, a boy and a girl, in 2006. Despite the joy of expanding her family, her eldest daughter, Renee, had a difficult time accepting the new additions.

Lauren met her husband, Frank Garcia, at a dance class in New Jersey in 2002, and they married in July of that year. Despite their age gap, they both longed for children. However, due to Lauren’s advanced age, many doctors initially rejected their attempts at in vitro fertilization (IVF). It wasn’t until a New Jersey doctor agreed to help that they were successful.

Their first child, Raquel, was born in December 2004 through IVF. Shortly after Raquel’s birth, Lauren discovered she was pregnant with twins. Gregory and Giselle were born via IVF with donor eggs in May 2006, just before Lauren turned 60.

Being an older mother came with challenges, especially as Renee often mistook her for the twins’ grandmother. Despite this, the family wishes for health and happiness in the years to come.
