Israeli top general resigns over October 7 attacks
Israeli Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi has resigned, citing failures by the Israeli military regarding the Hamas-led October 7 attacks, a military spokesman said on Tuesday.
Halevi’s resignation will take effect on March 6, the spokesman said.
The step came “at a time when the (Israeli military) has (made) significant achievements and is in the process of implementing the agreement to release our hostages,” Halevi said in a statement.
Several Israeli military representatives have resigned since 1,200 people were killed by Palestinian militants in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
Some 250 people were abducted to the Gaza Strip in the unprecedented attacks, which led Israel to wage war on the Palestinian territory.
Many Israelis have accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of failing to take personal responsibility for political and military failure on October 7.
