Frankfurt Airport still well below pre-coronavirus level in 2024

Passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport, Germany’s largest aviation hub, in 2024 was still well below its pre-pandemic record.

Operator Fraport said on Thursday that 61.6 million passengers passed through the airport last year, which is 3.7% more than in 2023.

But the volume is still 12.7% lower than the record level seen in 2019, when around 70.6 million passengers were accommodated.

In 2020, air traffic collapsed as a result of travel restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. It has still not yet fully recovered in Germany.

Frankfurt-based Fraport said several airports it operates outside of Germany are seeing significantly higher passenger numbers than before the pandemic.
