Israeli military attacks more than 100 targets in Gaza, Lebanon
The Israeli military said it had attacked more than 100 targets in Gaza and Lebanon in the last 24 hours as it continues fighting on multiple fronts in its war against Islamist groups.
The military targeted weapons depots, rocket launchers and command centres, the military said.
“The troops found a large quantity of weapons and eliminated dozens of terrorists from the air and from the ground,” the military said in a statement about the army’s operations in Beit Lahia and Jabalia, the refugee camp in the north of the Gaza Strip, on Wednesday.
The military is continuing its operations against Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, with new airstrikes in the south of the capital Beirut, eyewitnesses said on Thursday morning. Beforehand, Israel called on local residents to leave their homes.
Since September, Israel’s military has massively expanded its attacks in Lebanon, where it says it is fighting the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia, seeking to push back fighters from its northern border to enable residents to return. Fighter planes have bombed targets across the country and frequently in the suburbs south of Beirut.
Health ministries and authorities in Gaza and Lebanon meanwhile point to the high civilian death toll in the Israeli attacks, which, coupled with the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and extensive destruction, is garnering increasing criticism worldwide.
